I am noticing at my age that I have lost interest in video games compared to when I was younger. Is this because reading fanfiction has taken up all my time? Or have games gotten worse (too complicated?)

I think about the games I enjoyed playing, such as Banjo Tooie, and Prince of Persia: Sands of time. These were great games, and I believe I would enjoy playing games of a similar type. Even at this time, I have the opportunity to play Prince of Persia (PC) and Psyconauts (via Steam). I hold off on this, mainly because I don’t know if I will be able to commit to these games.

For instance, two recent games I have started playing but stopped suddenly were COD4: Modern Warfare (PC) and FF: Warriors of Light (DS). These were both games I had waited years to play, but the reality of playing them was quite different. In these games you are seemingly weak.

I think I enjoy games where you are strong. In Banjo Tooie, you begin with every single move you learned in the original game (violating the metroid rule of losing all your powers at the start of a new game). That’s one reason I like Raiden Fighters 2. In most bullet hell games, you are just scrambling to survive. In RF2, you are immediately outfitted with awesome weapons, capable of utterly decimating the enemy tanks and fighters. This, I like.

Its nice having an Japanese knicknack store in Sacramento. For awhile now, the only stores selling this kind of merchandise were only in the bay area. The kinds of things they sell are well worth the price. In luie of the cheap knockoff items found in dollar stores, you get well designed Japanese knockoffs. The main difference is that Japanese homes do not have room for alot of crap so the items they buy must be useful and functional. For instance, I’ve been looking for a one bud headphone, but had given up. Lo and behold this store had one in stock. I think I will be going there quite often.

Saw Kung Fu Panda 2 today. Great villain you kinda feel sorry for, even though his unhappiness is his own fault. Can tell Tigress has alot more going on than the film has room for, but had some good moments with Po. Mantis is awesome cause he’s insect sized but just as strong (and faster) than the rest of the Furious Five. Lol at Crane sleeping standing on one leg. Cried at Po’s memory of the last time he saw his Mom. So happy they continued the focus on Ping and the parent/child relationship he has with Po that was the showcase of the Christmas special.

Well, Bryan and Hoa are now married. There were a few bumps, but in general everything went well. Things of note:

1) Accidentally drank vase water that was in a water pitcher. Poisonous? Maybe.

2) Had to cut a groomsman’s pants to “let it out”

3) Had a pleasant night nap

4) Wedding hijack a partial sucsess

5) Kaytie is wonderfull!!!

I’m still alive in 2011. Things I’m looking forwards to this year:

-Utena DVDs to be released, still one of the best anime series ever made

-Gundam Unicorn Ep3, gundam without the stupid. The first gundam series to take place during the UC era that is about the UC era itself

-Martial Arts. Make it happen.

Hungry?

Although I should feel fortunate that my city has an anime convention, I have certain unrealistic expectations from my experiences at going to the larger conventions held in southern california. I am referring to the size of the vendor room. More vendors means more chances for good loot. I was hoping to get one of the newer Gundam 00 models, but found a good deal on an HGUC 2-pack. Some Hyakko keychains and a rare W.I.T.C.H graphic novel rounded out the experience. Although I am happy with my bounty, I still dream of the cavernous vendor space, where seeing the other side of the hall is only possible on a clear day.

Summer makes it’s unwelcome arrival

Yep, that's what summer is like.

Nature has given the city a preview of whats to come for the summer months. And it reeks of sweat. The heat has also renewed concerns about my computer. The CPU fan is only mounted at two corners, thanks to the guys with the genius idea of constructing the fan mounts out of plastic. Needless to say, Gorilla Glue ™ did not work. The solution of course is to buy a new computer. But do I really want to deal with Vista? Sure, why the hell not. It is shiny and new and I can always turn off all the extra crap that loads at startup. In anime news, K-ON! looks to be the only thing I will be watching this season, and I am glad. I really don’t want to be burdened with having to tax my computer in downloading more shows. Let’s all have an enjoyable summer.balance-sheets-tell-a-story2

From the director of the stunning “Ong Bak” and the rather silly “The Protector” (of elephants), comes “Chocolate”, the story of an autistic girl with the special ability to deliver beatdowns to everyone she meets. The first thing of note is that the plot is simpler than that of the previous films, overall leading to more fights (This could just be because I fast-forwarded through the talking scenes). Enough stalling! Let’s talk about the action. Up and coming action starlet Jeeja trained for 4 years before they started filming and it shows. While Tony Jaa is all about power and force (as begets a Thai kickboxer), Jeeja’s style is more acrobatic. She can’t take to many hits, and the hits she usually does dish out are not knockouts. It was annoying at some later parts of the film when her opponents just would not STAY DOWN! I guess you could give the excuse that she was getting tired out and relying solely on her autistic abilities to keep going (a la Forrest Gump’s running ability). Well, the movie can be viewed as offensive in many respects, and probably won’t be released here in the US because of that. Autism is still an issue, with some still choosing to believe that it doesn’t exist and that it is simply the product of bad parenting. This film would simply add more fuel to the fire.
